The Architects Pitch
Does the thought of pitching to a room full of strangers scare you?
If the answer is yes, then you’re not alone.
Even though all architects have been through the crit system, it’s not the same as a pitch.
Of course, in the business world entrepreneurs need to pitch to investors to raise money.
It is often referred to as the “elevator pitch” because it has to take no longer than the time between floors in a lift, around 30 seconds.
Architects don’t have to do this, but they should be comfortable giving a synopsis of their practice in a condensed version.
It’s not just that people have less time, but you never know when you might bump into a potential client. It’s one thing to explain your practice in familiar surroundings, such as your studio and at your own pace but quite another to have to do it an airport, for example, when you both have a ‘plane to catch.
But having a concise description of what you do at a moment’s notice isn’t easy.
Architects sometimes struggle to get their ideas across without restoring to professional jargon and they are not good at keeping to time.
This is why we came up with the idea of the Architect Pitch.
The format is simple. Seven architects pitch their practice to a panel of e experts who then give their feedback. Pitches last no longer than three minutes.
