From Pimms to canapés, cocktails to champagnes, you know summer is here and it’s time to celebrate. Not only for the luxury of the London sun but also to celebrate new talents and their graduate shows. This year the Adrem team was delighted to attend as many design schools as possible to be involved with the up-and-coming talents in the architecture and design world.
Every June, the London Festival of Architecture coordinates a series of events from open offices to architectural talks and tours. During this month many design colleges and universities take advantage of this festival to showcase their graduate’s talents and creative flares. Larger universities may host their own show but some collaborate to exhibit in design shows, like New Designers and Free Range.
The team at Adrem took the opportunity to get to know the up-and-coming talents in the design world by attending many of the private shows in London. Here we have discovered new techniques that were being taught and how advanced they would become when entering the architecture and design industry. It was eye opening to see such experimental skills in the students’ portfolios.
If you were to ask us what was the one highlight of this year’s event, we wouldn’t be able to tell you. There are so many variations of talents across all design disciplines, it would be difficult to pick just one.
As ever we were involved heavily this year with our academic partners UCL. This years Bartlett show was quite special. It showed a fabulous combination between more traditional techniques such as earthen ware moulding and craftsmanship combined with the latest in digital technology. This was capped off with an amazing party to mark its launch. A worthy contender for this years academic exhibition of the year.

The best thing about attending the shows was the opportunity we got to discuss with the students about their work. It helped us understand their strengths and weaknesses and allowed us to advise them on how they can overcome these issues before entering a design studio or practice.
Although many architecture and design shows have past, there are still more to come in the following weeks of summer and we are excited to see you there.
