Clerkenwell Design Week: Nerd Nation Shoreditch
6 speakers, 6 minutes each, 20 slides, 20 seconds per slide. Fast, fun idea sharing. The aim is to take information off the desk, out of the screen and into the social scene, promoting real life interactions which lead to collaborations.
Adrem is hosting a Pecha Kucha style event, Nerd Nation Shoreditch, during Clerkenwell Design Week 2015 . That means 6 speakers, only 6 minutes each, 20 slides, 20 seconds per slide. Fast and fun information sharing. Your Real World Social Network.
The aim of Nerd Nation is to take the information off the desk, out of the screen and into the social scene. It was born out of a curiosity to know what was going on in all the closed studio doors around Shoreditch, Haggerston and Dalston. Its aim is to help promote real life interactions which lead to collaborations or just making friends.
The events are semi-themed, having at least two speakers of the same profession. In September we had three architects speaking. In November we had two product designers speaking. January was more random with a hula hooper, a championship beat box artist, and an award winning 3D printed shoe designer! We try to mix hobbies with professional subjects to give a more grounded & real-world approach.
- Ed Reeve, Architectural Photographer and self builder of a David Adjaye House
- Dr. Colin Beattie from John Robertson Architects on Decarbonising Cities.
- Sam Mason, coder, developer and lecturer at Steer, code school and successful start up.
More speakers to follow….stay tuned!
About Nerd Nation Shoreditch
Nerd Nation Shoreditch was founded by Maeve Staunton who noticed in the courtyard of where she lived in Shoreditch there are two design magazines, one sound studio, a film editing suite, a digital film agency, a carpenters work shop and 6 people living there. The thought of that behind our single door, imagine what is behind all of the other doors in Shoreditch. So Nerd Nation Shoreditch was born October 2014. With people continuously requesting to host the more events, it continues. It is about taking the information out of the desktop and into the real world. It is about creating a community of designers, business people, data nerds and tech heads and allowing them to get together and collaborate. It is a real world social network.
