Shortlist Announced: Sketch Off – Battle of the Grads
Exciting news! After tough deliberation and consideration, we have selected the top 8 sketchers for London’s first ever live sketching competition for product designers.
Sketch Off – Battle of the Grads will take place in Dreamspace Gallery on 4th October from 6pm in front of a live audience and London’s well know sketch-pros. All contestants will be competing to win an Internship with SeymourPowell as the final trophy with runner-ups also benefit in special prizes.

Tom Anderson – Loughborough University
Personal Bio: Tom has worked alongside a talented team of design professionals in Coventry, learning the importance of using sketches to effectively communicate design concepts; both in-house and with clients. Tom takes sketching seriously and strives to improve upon with daily practice; from expressive doodles to more refined sketch renderings. Tom is passionate about all things design, with a particular love for the design of new technologies. Product design is an exciting avenue through which he hopes to take part in building the future!
Emilios Farrington-Arnas – Brunel University
Personal Bio: London based industrial designer with a penchant for attractive, intelligent design. Loves good food, geometric shapes and has a very strong caffeine dependency like all designers.
When it comes to designing, Emilios always aim to create beautiful products with a hint of playfulness, enriching the user experience with tactile and satisfying responses. He believes there’s no reason for every piece of design to look rich and beautiful in all situations, whilst still being pragmatic, long-lasting and perfectly functioning.
John Glynn – National College of Art and Design
Personal Bio: Irish Industrial designer who worked at a design consultancy after finishing college. John is an avid designer and design sketcher with a passion from everything product to automotive and in-between. He likes to convey fluidity, emotion and dynamism with his sketching style, confident lines give a confident sketch.
Fraser Leid – University of Hertfordshire
Personal Bio: Fraser’s studied design over 5 years at two very different parts of the world. During this time, he has consulted and collaborated with five companies, all with diverse backgrounds and different disciplines. Posting daily sketches on Instagram and connecting with creative community has helped Fraser learn the importance of sketching as a means of communication. His inspiration stems from classical line drawings (renaissance / victorian)but with an Industrial Design feel.
Francisco Rojas Miranda – Royal College of Art
Personal Bio: Fransisco has been involved in multidisciplinary projects with engineers, artist and other designers. Being able to communicate design ideas in a visual way was crucial as it accelerated the iterations through different teams who did not share the same professional language. What motivates Fransisco during the project development is the process in which a design is created through the continuous exploration and discovery of all the elements that influence its creation, from the initial rough sketch to the study of the production process. Through his designs, he seeks to evoke feelings and emotions based on the materials, textures and colours.
Élodie Soler – Royal College of Arts
Personal Bio: Elodie is a passionate and enthusiastic Designer and Researcher, with a fascination for Social Sciences. Elodie started drawing at a very early age, inventing stories of new worlds through her comics. Hoping to use her visual skills and imagination to promote positive change in people’s behaviour, Elodie studied Product Design in Lyon (FR), before moving to Kingston Upon Thames (UK) to study a Masters in Sustainable Design then further completed a double Masters in Innovation Design Engineering at the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London.
Joseph Weaver – University of the West of England
Personal Bio: Joseph is a young, versatile designer from Bristol, ready to begin his professional journey into industry. He has always loved to draw; ever since he could pick up a pencil it has been his favourite hobby. Joseph’s drawing ability is fuelled by a strong imagination and creativity. He enjoys the challenge and rewarding experience of product design, where ideas are shaped into reality.
Daniel Wyrobal – University of Applied Arts Vienna
Personal Bio: Born and raised in Vienna, Daniel studied industrial design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Daniel has freelanced as designer and illustrator for various clients in Austria and the UK. He is a big fan of entertainment concept design and visual storytelling.
